City of Milwaukee Deploys Surveillance Network in Historic Mitchell Street
Milwaukee Police Department collaborates with Business Improvement District to expand Wi4Net citywide wireless surveillance system
Reston, Va., March 1, 2010 – Wi4Net, a division of CelPlan Technologies, Inc. and a leading provider of integrated wireless broadband and video solutions, today announced that it has completed the installation of a 12-camera expansion system in the Historic Mitchell Street area. In a collaborative effort between the City of Milwaukee and the Business Improvement District, grant funding allowed to expand the existing citywide system with additional high performance wireless cameras throughout the target area, with a focus on intersections, sidewalks, store fronts and parking lots.
Using the 4.9 GHz band for the wireless connections, the system leverages Wi4Net's FlexiRadio wireless platform for backhaul communications and camera connectivity. The FlexiVideo product suite provides for the hardened, stainless steel wireless pole camera units with battery backup for continued service in case of a power outage, and leading edge camera technology featuring 35X optical zoom. Each camera streams real-time high resolution (4CIF) video to a state-of-the-art centralized monitoring system.
“We have already seen similar camera systems successfully support economic development of downtown areas in other cities,” said Leonhard Korowajczuk, CEO of CelPlan. “When designed correctly, wireless technology is a powerful tool that has helped cities nationwide with their public safety needs and economic growth.”
